Mass today is from the chapel of St Mary’s College Ponsonby. Opened in 1866 this Chapel was the original church of the Ponsonby parish. The Bishop’s chair that Bishop Steve will use is that of our first Catholic Bishop in Aotearoa John Baptist Pompallier. This great feast of the Holy Trinity calls us our attention to the great mystery of God.
One way of entering into this mystery is by contemplating creation, the work of God’s hands. We can look up at the moon and the stars or gaze on the wonder of mountains and valleys and be filled with wonder we are full of awe. The same sense of awe might be found in the smile of others.
The Psalm today reminds us that praise of God dies not mean leaving everything to God. We cannot spend all our time on our knees exclaiming “O Lord, our God, how wonderful you are!” At the end of every Eucharist we are out to love and praise God by caring for our fellow beings, for all creation. Nourished by the liturgy we are called to roll up our sleeves and take up our task of missionary discipleship.
